About the Author
Andrew Greasley is a lecturer in the Operations and Information Management Group at Aston Business School. He lectures in Operations Management and is a member of the Technology and Operations Management research group at Aston. He is the author of Simulation Modelling for Business  published by Asgate Ltd and is co-author of business Information Systems: technology, development and Management for the E-Business published by Pearson Education Ltd. (0273655043) His research interest is in the area of simulation modeling. He has over fifteen years' experience of building simulation models for industrial clients in the private and public sectors. He has taught modeling techniques for a number of years in Europe and Africa, including in the UK, France, Hungary, Malawi and Zimbabwe. He has over 50 publications, including papers in journals such as the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Journal of the Operational research Society, Simulation, Technovation and Business Process Management Journal. Zipped thru this one rather fast for me (and I am reading another book). My 2nd Bosch novel, as I am reading them in the order they were published. Got hooked on the Harry Bosch character thanks to Amazon Prime. Loved Season 1 and wanted to knock out several Bosch books before I tackle Season 2 (and maybe wait around until Season 3 is announced). These are well written detective thrillers. Kept me guessing. I will knock out a couple of other books and sometime in late December start on The Concrete Blonde (Harry Bosch, #3; Harry Bosch Universe, #3) by Michael Connelly. A digital library loan (and they have most if not all of the Bosch thrillers).

I have chosen to delve fully into the Bosch series...all 23 and counting. It will take awhile but as I dig into this persona, I can't help but feel Connelly has given his character a solid, real ( well, as real as fiction can get), texture....warts and all. I am reading them sequentially to follow the timeline of Harry's perslnal/professional life. Next up: The Concrete Blonde...sounds intriguing...recommend highly this series.

The crime, if it is one, is puzzling. Did narcotics officer Calexico Moore commit suicide by shooting himself with a shotgun? The physical difficulty of even doing in one’s self like that is daunting. Harry Bosch gets this case along with another one, seemingly unrelated at first. It involves a dead body found by a dumpster identified only as Juan Doe #67. Moore left a wife and Bosch often reflects how beautiful she is. Lucky for Bosch he has a contact in the coroner’s office, one Teresa Corazon. She an attractive woman, available, and soon they are sharing some pillow talk at Harry’s cottage. Wonder if she’s whispering sweet details of the autopsies? Even worse, did Bosch fantasize about Moore’s wife during all this? Bosch’s cases involve the drug traffic and require him to make a trip to Mexico where one of the most powerful drugs is something called black ice. It’s being made down there somewhere and somehow gets across the border in large quantities. Once he is south of the border, Bosch gets involved in various activities with Mexican police authorities, even taking time to see a bull fight. This kind of plot movement is a bit unusual for author Michael Connelly and seems to dilute the momentum of the story. The most redeeming feature of this book is the surprise ending. I was tempted to give up the book earlier but I’m glad I persevered.

And is the LAPD going to cover it up in order to save face? And how is Bosch going to solve at least one murder at the request of Lt. "Ninety-eight" Pounds in order to get the solve statistic above 50%?And what about Calexico's sultry wife; is Bosch going to do anything with his weirdly unrequited fascination for her?And what about Teresa Corazon, who is knocking boots with Bosch and is trying to get a promotion to permanent Medical Examiner? Will Bosch make it out of this book with an intact relationship?And how do the deaths of a dealer, Moore and another LAPD homicide officer all tie together with "Black Ice"?This is the second Bosch book. Connelly keeps us watching all the balls as they fly through the air. Bosch comes across as the iconoic tough loner with a heart of gold, committed to seeing justice done and truth uncovered, even, though, he doesn't necessarily want the law to interfere with his investigation or truth to be revealed if it means that a widow may lose her pension.The story was entertaining and kept me turning the pages.

Connelly expertly grabs the reader's attention in a few pages then begins an intriguing and compelling story that belongs in the first rank of the noir genre in the modern era. With all due respect to Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett, Connelly weaves a tale that rivals their best work. The novel begins with a corpse and balances the storytelling with a corpse at the end. What happens inbetween is storytelling of the highest order.

I first learned about Bosch from the Amazon Prime show (free plug Amazon!). Often when I go back and read the source books of show I like I am disappointed because they are often very different (I'm looking at you, Bones and Justified!) However Black Ice, the first Harry Bosch novel, felt very familiar to me. Yes there were some differences, but they made sense story wise, like moving the timeline up 20 years, merging plots of two books, combining characters as needed.I was also glad that reading the books wasn't a retread of the show. I definitely feel like I can enjoy the books, and enjoy the show as well.

"The Black Ice" is the second novel of the Harry Bosch series and I really enjoyed this book more than "Black Echo", the first novel of the series. This book was amazing! I couldn't put it down.In this novel, Harry Bosch,(the detective)is looking into the apparent suicide of a fellow officer who had been investigating the appearance of a new drug on the street scene called "black ice." Superiors want the investigation wrapped up as soon as possible, but the more Bosch digs, the more mysteries he finds that lead him south of the border for the final confrontation. This was an excellent and multi-layered story, unpeeling like layers of an onion. Connelly is an excellent storyteller, and he is patient enough to let the story develop at its own pace, with believable characters and a well designed plot.The ending has a real twist, that I didn't even see coming.For anyone that loves reading Mystery-Suspense-Thrillers...don't miss out on this one. This book was amazing.

I'm hopeful that this book will become a handbook to agile development teams around the world seeking the opportunity to produce more secure code and improve their application security posture. I recommend that readers start with Chapter 16 "What Does Agile Security Mean" as it's great to get context from the authors first before jumping into the material of the book.The authors represented the honest struggle that application teams face day to day trying to make their applications more secure. Software has constant threats, whether is poor design, software anti-patterns, unnecessarily exposed attack surfaces, insecure software libraries, etc...The authors took the time emphasize the importance of build security into the build pipeline. Agile development teams should strive to achieve as much measured quality in their CI build pipeline.I happen to work with one of the software companies mentioned in the book. While my team is flattered to be referenced among many amazing companies, it's not my intention to write this review on my company's behalf. Rather, I want to commend the authors for putting out a great foundational resource for educating the agile development community about application security.

This book could not have come at a better time. With the growing threats to critical infrastructure and IoT, which my company produces, guidance on how to practically integrate security into your SDLC is critical. I have read a few books that either get so into the weeks as to make the process unobtainable, or are so high level I leave without knowing what I need to do next to realize Secure SDLC. I presented to a large conference of ICS and IoT developers this week and quoted a few sections of Laura Bell and teams book. They have a very concise and understandable way of presenting and describing complex topics to make them manageable. The book does a great job of introducing the concepts of Secure SDLC to both developers and security professionals to equip them with the knowledge they need. I appreciated the If this, then that, flow in the beginning to help the reader self classify as either a developer or security professional, then point them to which chapters they should start with. Really saved me some time and the sections were spot on in their content and guidance.Overall great book. I have earmarked quite a few pages and even had to get the highlighter out. Most of my development teams are more than likely going to purchase it...

It is not often I read a book, and all the ideas and suggestions in it resonate well with me, and I want to read to the end, and I even make notes and follow the suggested articles. I think all the Security People, Developers, Scrum Master, Product Owners and Architects who are struggling to figure out how the various development processes under the Agile banner can work securely, should read and understand this book. It offers some excellent and practical ideas to base a good conversation about getting security done in an enabling, positive way. A great read, which I strongly recommend!

Recent and much more relevant for the way software is developed today. Written by actual security professionals and not professional book writers with no underlying understanding of the topic.
